September is Culture Month
- Posted September 1st, 2010
Mayor Dave Bronconnier has proclaimed September Calgary's second annual Culture Month - an initiative to celebrate the arts in Calgary and encourage Calgarians and visitors to take advantage of the city's extensive offering of arts events.
Culture Month is your chance to dream big about culture in our city. Calgary is bidding to be named the Cultural Capital of Canada in 2012, and the Calgary 2012 bid committee is looking for your ideas about how Calgarians should celebrate.
2012 marks a pivotal year in Calgary’s cultural history. The centennial anniversaries of some of the city’s cultural cornerstones will be celebrated in 2012, including the Calgary Stampede, City of Calgary Recreation, the Calgary Public Library, the Pumphouse and the GRAND Theatre.
What do you think makes this city great? Share your thoughts on why you love living in Calgary, what you think the future of culture in our city should be and how you want to celebrate culture in 2012. Whether it’s acknowledging Calgary’s cultural history, experiencing everything this city has to offer or something entirely new, no idea is too big and no act is too small.
The ideas YOU suggest will be the basis for Calgary’s bid. Dream big!
Visit Calgary2012.com to submit your idea now.

I would love to see more
I would love to see more public art exhibits. The exhibits at City Hall have been great, but I would like to have more of these in more spots so that even more Calgarians can experience what our local artists have to offer. These should also include short plays, improvisation, musical performances, etc. It would also be interesting to see collaborations among various groups, such as Calgary Opera with Alberta Ballet, or the CPO with improv groups, etc. That would demonstrate Calgary's diversity of talent and our entrepreneurial spirit!
