Outsourced Financial Services Consultant

Calgary Arts Development is accepting proposals from a Financial Consultant to provide services for our organization. We invite interested proponents to submit a proposal to us by December 5, 2008, for consideration. A description of our organization, the services needed, and other pertinent information follows.

Background of Calgary Arts Development

Calgary Arts Development plays a leadership role in realizing the potential of arts and culture in Calgary. As the city's designated arts development authority, we are a central hub that learns about, promotes, connects, advocates for and leads strategic initiatives in the arts to animate Calgary as a vibrant cultural centre.

Calgary Arts Development was formed in March 2005, as directed by the 2004 Civic Arts Policy. Calgary's civic leadership is serious about the arts playing a central role in our city's future - they recognize that a vibrant arts scene is essential to quality of life, and by extension, is fundamental to our city's overall success. Calgary Arts Development will add to the quality of life in Calgary by ensuring that:

• Calgarians have a multitude of opportunities to engage in creative pursuits as artists, students and as patrons;
• Calgary is an environment in which artists truly thrive: learning here, building lengthy careers here & moving here;
• Calgary develops an authentic reputation as an inclusive, innovating and culturally vibrant city.

Calgary Arts Development Authority Limited (www.calgaryartsdevelopment.com) is a corporation under the Alberta Business Corporations Act, and has a 2008 budget just over $5M.

Statement of Need

Calgary Arts Development has grown significantly since its inception in March 2005. As we continue to develop our programs and refine our operations, we intend to enhance our financial infrastructure.

There are two stages to the work that we require:

a) A one-time project to set up an enhanced financial tracking and reporting system; and

b) Ongoing maintenance of the renewed system, including the regular preparation of financial reports.

General Requirements

The respondent must possess an accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA).  CADA recognizes that some of the work may be performed by professionals without an accounting designation.  In such situations, the work must be reviewed by a designated accountant. 

The consultant(s) must have at least 5 years experience with financial systems set up; experience with implementing systems and chart of accounts structure and developing relevant management reports.
