- Posted February 2nd, 2010
Throughout the month of February, Exposure 2010 celebrates nearly 40 exhibitions of photographic works in galleries throughout Calgary, Banff and Canmore, alongside panel discussions, lectures and special events.
Revolving around the theme of perception, the festival kicks off at the Triangle Gallery on February 4th at 7:30pm with the exhibition Counter-Photography: Japan's Artists Today. The exhibition features a diversity of artistic trends and approaches with 60 works by 11 modern and contemporary photographers from Japan, and is presented in partnership with the Japan Foundation in Tokyo and Toronto and the Consulate General of Japan in Calgary.
Other festival highlights include new works shot in large format 8 x 10 negatives by international award-winning photographer David Burdeny; Polaroids of studio models taken by celebrated artist Attila Richard Lukacs; and a solo show by Joshua Jensen-Nagle, a photographer who uses experimental materials and techniques to create unique images.
In addition to many events being held in Calgary, a number of the events take place in Banff and Canmore. Bill Anderson, a master of film-based photography with a fresh look at natural beauty is showing at Banff’s Whyte Museum, and The Banff Centre hosts From Head to Toe: Portraits by Nina Raginsky.
