Operating Grant Appeals Policy

Calgary Arts Development intends its Operating Grant Process to be fair and transparent. In the event where a case can be made that an assessment panel has misunderstood an application or where due process was not followed, Calgary Arts Development offers an opportunity for applications to be re-considered through an appeals process.

Grant Assessment

Calgary Arts Development's arms length Grants Assessors make recommendations for the disbursement of operating and other granting funds to Calgary Arts Development staff, who in turn provide these recommendations to the Calgary Arts Development Board of Directors. In making recommendations, assessors follow an assessment process that considers established criteria for each assessed grant program.

Artistic and Public Impact (the primary focus in the assessment of Operating Grants)

Calgary Arts Development has prepared the attached Artistic and Public Impact Measurements document as a starting point for exploring these areas. This document contains a number of measurements and examples for both artistic and public impact that were used as a reference in creating the 2009 Operating Grant. Grant applicants have been asked to write about their impact in many of these measurement areas. We hope to be able to continue to add to and improve this document as we explore these areas with you. Any comments you may have to strengthen this document are welcome!

2012 Operating Grant Program

DEADLINE: 4:30PM, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2012

The Operating Grant Program invests annually in Calgary based, non-profit organizations driven by an arts mandate, with priority given to organizations that demonstrate high artistic and public impact while maintaining sound operations. The goal of the Operating Grant Program is to ensure that Calgary arts organizations have the opportunity to flourish in an environment with a stable base of resources. Organizations may allocate these funds to any area of their overall budget.

The funds and allocations for CADA’s 2012 Operating Grant will remain consistent with 2011 levels. Therefore organizations currently funded through our Operating Grant Program are unable to request an increase to their 2012 grant. Organizations previously funded in 2011 can complete an Extension Report (or an Interim report if you are a Festival organization) to receive the same funding in 2012, subject to the terms and conditions described in the guidelines below.

Organizations that received an Operating Grant in 2011 will be required to complete an Extension Report or Interim Report:
